Technically, you could have a langstroth hive on an apartment balcony, the bees just need to have a clear up and out flight path- clear of traffic. Since we moved out top bar hive, the bees fly out into the area where we walk to our chicken coop, and it isn't as convenient (that means I've been bopped-as a warning- by a passing bee more than once, and actually stung while trying to pick alpine strawberries) My bees tend to fly out and up at a pretty low angle in their current location. Some keepers recommend putting the entrance near something (a wall, a shrub) that will make them fly up- 6 ft or so- before they fly out. Chris and another keeper (ideally, because the more experience you have looking at a siting the better) should look at your lot and determine the best place. The only issue with on top of your chicken run is how would you get to it to tend/harvest? Perhaps the back side of the run, up against the fencing if that's on your property. Atop the rabbit hutch might be an option if it is sheltered from the street. bridgmanpotteryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10552084024770335560noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7260968183070856893.post-36148767899464404882014-05-29T07:57:35.429-07:002014-05-29T07:57:35.429-07:00learning so much from you Melissa! Chris keeps bees where he works and for someone up the road. Would love to hear your thoughts on how to keep bees in a very tight space.amyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09257528370666236386noreply@blogger.com
