I think most other varieties require more chill than we get here.krakenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02465455766487996618noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7260968183070856893.post-28657815207725469942013-05-01T14:44:17.975-07:002013-05-01T14:44:17.975-07:00This comment has been removed by the author.krakenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02465455766487996618noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7260968183070856893.post-27543762865595394702013-04-30T18:59:03.541-07:002013-04-30T18:59:03.541-07:00I am hoping to plant some this year, and just saw ...I am hoping to plant some this year, and just saw some crowns at my local nursery. It is currently snowing here (again) so I think I still have time. I appreciate seeing how you did it- helped me understand a lot better. We got about 12 or so spears, though I know you arent supposed to pick them, I had to try one -- amazing. this year, there is less activity, just a few spears, but it ts early yet. could be i need to weed though! that said, asparagus is known to grow wild in abundabce in the right conditions, so i have to wonder how much they are affected by weed competition. i understand that year 3 is when they really come on, so i will have to report back to you then, i suppose!Team Funhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15753218024365139139noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7260968183070856893.post-77039032570495567112013-04-30T12:07:19.903-07:002013-04-30T12:07:19.903-07:00Exciting! I wonder if your climate is a little on the warm side for asparagus? I planted mine last year in Southern California and nothing seems to try to eat it, but we don't have any deer near us. I did notice that some of the smaller crowns that we planted last year appear to have died since they didn't send up any spears this year. krakenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02465455766487996618noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7260968183070856893.post-50424734226889867182013-04-30T03:53:07.030-07:002013-04-30T03:53:07.030-07:00We planted our asparagus a a few summers ago and w...We planted our asparagus a a few summers ago and we picked it for the first time this year; hands down the most delicious asparagus I've ever had! I'd really like to put in a few more plants! We live in the city, so no deer problems here (knock on wood).rebeccahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09372146296228756100noreply@blogger.com
